Improving Local Food Procurement with Ontario Chefs!

Our Provender Ontario team was delighted by the warm welcome received from members of the Niagara-on-the-Lake and St. Catherine’s chef community. Over twenty of the area’s most passionate chefs attended the roundtable discussion to give their feedback on improving local procurement for their kitchens and consumers. There was an amazing amount of enthusiasm shown by the chefs to source more local products from sustainable producers. 

Our gracious hosts at Rise Above kept us well nourished and refreshed with their tasty Compassion Platters. Their house made spreads and preserves were complimented by local craft beers and Niagara wine. It tasted even better knowing $1 from each platter is sent to help farm sanctuaries!

Incredibly talented teams from many local kitchens attended including Ravine Vineyards, AG Inspired Cuisine, Niagara’s Finest Inns, Backhouse, Tide and Vine, Dani’s Bistro, The Yellow Pear, Robin Howe Catering, Mahtay Café, Epicurean Bistro, The Garrison House, Zest and Niagara Parks.  Supporting local food procurement was the common focus among them all. It was a wonderful opportunity to see them all connect and network ideas, discuss the challenges and what role the community can play in pushing local food forward.

There is no shortage of passion to source as many local products as possible and we look forward to connecting local producers and enthused chefs as we head into spring. Niagara’s abundance of stunning local products will be available both in the Niagara region, as well as for our Toronto chef community.
